Answers to common questions about Stops.
How do I save a stop?
Tap + on the map to save where you are, long-press anywhere on the map to save that spot, or search for a place and save it. You can also say “Save a stop here” to Siri.
How do I save a place from Safari, Apple Maps or Google Maps?
Tap the share button and choose Stops. If you copy a map link instead, Stops offers to save it the next time you open the app.
How do I share a list with friends?
Open the list, tap the share button and invite people through Messages, Mail or a link. Everyone you invite needs to be signed in to iCloud.
How does Timeline work?
Turn on Timeline in the Journal tab. Stops then notes the places you spend time at on its own, using the same low-power visit detection as the system, with no continuous tracking, and shows each day as a map and list of visits. Timeline needs location access set to Always.
What is in Stops Pro?
Stops Pro adds past visits from your photos or a Google Maps Timeline export, trip pages with their stories and shareable maps, a journal and a patch for every country, the forecast on every stop with Where to Go, the weather at the time of each visit, and itineraries with walking routes and day plans. Everything else, including saving, lists, Timeline, importing places and exports, is free. Pro is a weekly or yearly subscription, or a one-off lifetime purchase that works with Family Sharing.
How do I earn country patches?
With Stops Pro, every country in your Timeline gets its patch, whether the visit was noted by Timeline or came from your photos. Set foot somewhere new and its patch unlocks. Tap a patch to open that country’s journal.
My stops aren’t syncing between devices.
Make sure you’re signed in to the same Apple Account on each device, and that iCloud is turned on for Stops in Settings › [your name] › iCloud. Syncing can take a few minutes, especially on mobile data or in Low Power Mode.
How do I set up Stops on Apple Watch?
Stops for Apple Watch installs with the iPhone app. Open it on your watch to see your nearest stops and save where you are, and add the Stops complication to a watch face to see your nearest stop at a glance.
Does Stops run on iPad and Mac?
Yes. On iPad your stops and Timeline sit in a panel beside a big, live map. On a Mac with Apple silicon, Stops runs as the iPad app from the Mac App Store, and everything stays in sync through your iCloud.
Can I import places from other apps?
Yes. Stops can import Apple Maps guides, Google Maps saved places from Google Takeout, and GPX files, and you’ll be able to review everything before it’s saved. With Stops Pro, past visits can also come from your Google Maps Timeline or your photos. See all the guides.
How do I export my data?
Open Journal, tap the Settings gear and choose Export to export your stops and Timeline, or touch and hold any list and choose Export. Exports are in GPX, KML or CSV, and always free.
Does Stops collect my data?
No. Your data stays on your devices and in your private iCloud. See the privacy policy for details.
